Gilbert Y. Marchand, Jr.

Shareholder

Gilbert (“Gib”) Marchand joined Alperstein & Covell, P.C. as a shareholder in 2018.  Before that, he ran his solo practice and was “of counsel” to Alperstein & Covell for many years.  He has practiced law in Colorado since 1990 with a focus on issues related to water rights.  He has appeared before state agencies, trial courts, and appellate courts, and has represented both government and private clients, including ditch companies.  He is experienced in the acquisition, sale, leasing, permitting, and adjudication of water rights, including underground, surface and storage water rights, changes of water rights, and augmentation plans.

Mr. Marchand graduated from the University of Virginia in 1981 and obtained his J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1990.  He has lectured on Colorado ground water law, and served as co-adjunct professor of water law at the University of Denver.  He is a member of the Colorado and Boulder County Bar Associations, and previously served as co-chair of the latter’s Natural Resources Section.  Outside of work, he likes to play jazz and blues piano, hike, swim and ski.
